Abstract        :

In this talk, we will consider closed isolated quantum systems that have been taken out of equilibrium by quenching to a critical point. We would like to define thermalization with respect to the long time behaviour of local observables confined to a particular subset of the system. Under this definition, we would like to analytically study the time dynamics of the system to see whether and how it comes back to an equilibrium state that is well described by a Gibbs ensemble. We would also discuss the effects on the thermalization time scales due to the presence of additional conserved quantities in the system. From the AdS/CFT perspective, we would like to show that the rate of thermalization from the CFT matches with the lowest quasi-normal frequencies of a scalar field in a black hole background.
